Flash back to late July – mid August. Optimism, excitement and a sense of confidence permeated about every Fantasy college football draft. By the time it was over, no one could deny the fact your team was bound for postseason glory, fueled by your genius that started atop the board and was capped by a host of mid-round gems you knew had to be locks to emerge as The Sleepers of the draft.
So how is Marquis Lee working out for you? Surely, Logan Thomas couldn’t be as bad as he was last year, right? Oh, the hype on Derrick Green…..this kid would not only lead the Big 10 (+2) in rushing, but he’d also lead Michigan to the conference title. Yeah, all of these things happened, capped off by Scarlett Johansson arriving at your front door.
RotoXNation, it’s time to celebrate the picks that left us wondering “what the hell was I thinking?” At this point, the following players have so disappointed their owners to where laughter is the only medicine that can ease the pain of such poor foresight.
Without further ado, our RotoExperts.com midseason Fantasy college football All-Bust team:
QB: Terrance Owens, QB, Toledo

Having been part of a QB timeshare last season, it only begged to reason that Owens’ dual-threat skills would translate into borderline QB1 production. Eeep! Owens enters this week’s bye with a mere 68.5 total Fantasy points, with an 18.1 mark against Missouri his season high. At this point, most owners have ejected this Toledo Rocket despite the fact he has four favorable matchups between now and the end of the Fantasy regular season.
RB: Joe Hill, RB, Utah State
A sleeper in a host of drafts, Hill was primed for a monster season teaming up with QB Chuckie Keeton on this non-BCS darling. Thus far, his production has been….put it this way: take the “C” from BCS and let’s leave it at that. In the last three weeks, Hill’s sleeper potential has had an Ambien-like effect, as he has just 13.3 combined Fantasy points. With Keaton out for the season along with upcoming games against the stingy defenses of BYU and Boise State, it looks highly unlikely Hill’s numbers will rebound.
RB: Derrick Green, Michigan
Mea Culpa Moment: Yes, Green was among our top 10 freshmen to watch because the opportunity to hurdle Fitzgerald Toussaint didn’t appear to be that high of a bar. While Toussaint has played the role of grinder in the Wolverines’ offense, Green has left been left on the sidelines licking his chops for whatever table scraps are left over. Green has all of 20.1 points thus far in a less than supporting role, although an injury to Toussaint would quickly revive his chances to make a meaningful Fantasy contribution.
WR: Marquis Lee, USC
Lee was the first wideout off the board in most leagues; needless to say, his lack of production assured him a spot on this team. Even with the Trojans committing to a running game before AD Pat Haden decommitted from coach Lane Kiffin, the inability to get Lee involved in nothing more than dump-offs and quick screens was baffling while also showing a clear sign of just how far the Trojans had fallen. Surely, Pete Carroll would have adjusted the offense around one of the nation’s premier playmakers, who has yet to produce more than 15 points in a game.
WR: Jaxon Shipley, Texas
Mack Brown’s obsession with all things McCoy or Shipley resulted in a host of lemmings following the same path. Shipley was expected to be the featured receiver in a revamped Longhorns offense, and while he does have a team-best 24 receptions, Shipley has just 28.8 Fantasy points to show for it. The loss of QB David Ash further hurts his potential, as Case McCoy lacks the arm strength to make Shipley or any other Texas wideout worth a Fantasy look.
